Liz says: Okay, I gave it two issues before deciding to make it official: I like the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! It’s one of those books that I figured could be either really great or really annoying, and I’m pleased to report that so far it’s pretty great. For starters it’s funny, and Doreen is the sort of female protagonist I like. She’s awkward around guys she likes and just kind of goofy in general, but she’s got confidence and sass to spare. She’s not a Greg Land-style ‘generic hot girl’ traced from a Sports Illustrated Bikini Special, either. She’s got a realistic body type, doesn’t wear a skimpy costume, and did I mention the buckteeth and the big, fluffy tail? Plus, she’s not afraid to face formidable foes; her encounter with Kraven the Hunter in issue #1 was hilarious, and in this issue, she gears up to fight Galactus! Bottom line: If you want a fun read with a sparky, funny female lead, you’ll go nuts for Squirrel Girl.
