Liz says: This story isn’t actually called ‘Batman vs. Godzilla’, but if that idea appeals to you, you’re going to like ‘Night of the Monster Men’.
The first two parts of this nine-issue event (which crosses between ‘Batman’,, ‘Nightwing’ and ‘Detective’) kick off this week, setting the stage for a massive Pacific Rim style fight between the Batfamily and some massive Kaiju-esque monsters thundering mindlessly around Gotham. The mastermind behind the mutated monstrosities is Hugo Strange, one of Batman’s most cerebral and devious villains, whose endgame remains a mystery.

One thing I particularly like about ‘Night of the Monster Men’ is that it’s a crossover that requires actually crossing over into titles you may or may not be reading. A lot of event series of the past decade or so only truly require you to read the main title, with tie-ins usually just a lot of icing on top. ‘Monster Men’ harkens back to old-school crossovers where each issue really counts. The fact that the story jumps between three of Rebirth’s strongest offerings means that if you’re not already reading all of them, you’ll probably want to be after this.
