Liz says: The epic conclusion to the War Games saga is finally collected in this lovely paperback with gorgeous cover art by Jock. I’m really loving these new editions of DC’s past crossover events (recently ‘Bruce Wayne: Murderer’, ‘Fugitive’ and now ‘War Games’). Having the whole thing collected in two chunky, smart-looking books (rather than half a dozen six-issue trades) makes for a smooth reading experience and a nice-looking addition to my bookshelves.
The story in Book Two picks up after one of Batman’s closest confidantes has heedlessly activated one of Batman’s training scenarios with devastating results. The various crime families are without leadership, sending Gotham’s criminal element spiraling into chaos. One of Batman’s foes steps forward, taking advantage of the disorder, and sets out to unite the underworld factions under his rule. Batman struggles to prevent the looming violence against the innocents of Gotham even as Gotham’s police force turns against him. The whole Bat-family wades in to help, but they can’t save everyone, not even one of their own…
