Liz says: Having recently experienced the cinematic joy that is ‘Star Trek: Beyond’, my cravings for voyages in the final frontier are at maximum levels. As a massive fan of the reboot series, the most logical way to get my fix outside the cinema is the wonderful IDW ongoing series and any offshoots thereof. So it is a timely concurrence that this week should bring the collected edition of the much-hyped ‘Starfleet Academy’ miniseries, which follows our favourite team during their Academy years and also introduces a new class of cadets with whom their fate will collide. Writer Mike Johnson, who pens the ongoing series, is so in tune with the characters that it’s easy to fall into step with the format and to forget that you’re not in a darkened theater holding a tub of popcorn and frowning at that idiot who won’t switch off his mobile phone. So if you’ve already gone back and re-watched the 2009 motion picture and Star Trek: Into Darkness and still haven’t managed to scratch that itch, pick up ‘Starfleet Academy’ (or any of the other Star Trek books written by Johnson) and revel in the reboot-verse.
