Liz says: Back in 2005, Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung assembled a team of Avengers that looked a whole lot like ones you’re certainly already familiar with. The Young Avengers may have come dressed as Cap, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man, but they also arrived as fully formed characters, unique unto themselves, and at a very different stage in their lives and superhero careers. Allan Heinberg knows how to write teenage characters who feel real and relatable (his background includes writing for T.V. drama The O.C.), and perhaps that’s why these ones have stuck. Kate Bishop (AKA Hawkeye) has been a fan favourite since teaming up with Clint Barton (that other Hawkeye) in his ongoing series. Wiccan and Hulkling are staple members of the current New Avengers series, Cassie Lang is integral to the Astonishing Ant-Man and of course, there’s the immensely popular, super-cool 2011 Young Avengers follow-up by Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie.
