Thor Annual #1
Jason Aaron, Noelle Stevenson, CM Punk (w) & Timothy Truman, Marguerite Sauvage, Rob Guillory (a)
Marvel Comics

Liz (and Adam) say: With three mighty tales delivered by three strong creative teams, this Thor annual features an epic, a heroic, and a comedic story with different key characters of the…Thor-verse. Series scribe Jason Aaron and Timothy Truman give us King Thor and his granddaughters, exciting up-and-coming female creators Noelle Stevenson and Marguerite Sauvage take on exciting up-and-coming female Thor, while CM Punk and Rob Guillory highlight (ironically enough) the drinking prowess of a young God of Thunder. What a treat! Aaron’s is a moving tale set on a desolate earth in the far future. Next, Stevenson and Sauvage prove they’ve got the mainstream superhero comics thing down pat by smashing conventions and windows with still-mysterious-and-current Thor alongside the Warriors Three. And lastly, combine the startling wit of CM Punk (yes, that CM Punk) with artist Rob Guillory’s uncanny ability to make literally every pen stroke hilarious and you’ve got a young Thor story that will make you laugh just thinking about it. It’s rare that a $4.99 book with three features scores on all fronts, but verily this one does. Tremendous to see Stevenson on this stage and a remarkably fluid first outing for CM Punk.
